The ”Voices for Moldova” social media campaign was launched last week, bringing together 18 content creators from across the country to counter disinformation and promote unity, respect, and democratic values.

The campaign engages influencers, journalists, bloggers, and digital creators from different regions, including Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region.

Over the next six months, participants will produce original digital content across diverse platforms, leveraging their unique voices and audiences to strengthen critical thinking, foster informed dialogue, and promote social cohesion. The initiative is strictly apolitical and encourages authentic voices aligned with values enshrined in Moldova’s Constitution.

During the launch event on 18 February, Ana Revenco, head of the Center for Strategic Communication and Combatting Disinformation, encouraged creators to shift the focus from simply “fighting disinformation” to understanding the broader impact their content has on society. She emphasized promoting pride in being Moldovan, encouraging dialogue across regions, and strengthening trust within communities.

A content creator from the queer community present at the event emphasized the human rights dimension of the challenge: “Disinformation is not just a communication issue – it is a human rights issue. When information is intentionally distorted to manipulate people, it infringes upon the right to receive accurate and truthful information.”

Reflecting on the realities of today’s digital space, content creator D.Z. from Chișinău noted the speed and scale at which information spreads online. “Social media allows anyone to publish unverified information instantly. As a result, influencers and content creators can now reach more people than a prime-time news bulletin – often without the same editorial standards,” she said, underlining the responsibility that comes with digital reach.

Another digital creator, I.J., highlighted the broader context in which information warfare unfolds. “Beyond the wars fought with rockets, there is also a very active war for our minds – and we must work to keep our minds clear and resilient,” he stated.

The campaign also includes collaboration with ICDC media partners: Tuk.md, Ziua de Azi, Nord Press Club and eSP, and civil society organizations WatchDog and Youth Media Centre, for dissemination of content among their communities.

By the end of the initiative, the campaign aims to foster not only quality content, but also a stronger community of responsible digital voices contributing to Moldova’s democratic resilience.
