The Zona de Securitate newsroom has received the Resilience to Disinformation Award at the 2026 Civil Society Gala, organised annually by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova. In total, seven civil society organisations from the Republic of Moldova were recognised for excellence, solidarity and impact.
The award granted to Zona de Securitate recognises the newsroom’s contribution to countering disinformation and strengthening access to independent information, particularly in the Transnistrian region, where access to independent sources of information remains severely limited.
According to the team, the jury particularly appreciated the #UEpeNistru campaign, through which residents of the Transnistrian region gained access to information about the concrete impact of the support provided by the European Union. As part of the campaign, the newsroom produced reports, video materials and street interviews, while information panels were installed in several localities. One of these, installed in Varnița, was unlawfully removed only a few hours after being put up. According to the newsroom, this incident once again demonstrated the importance of ensuring that information reaches communities where access to independent sources is restricted or even prohibited.
Beyond this incident, the award confirms the relevance of Zona de Securitate’s editorial work: documenting sensitive issues, explaining the impact of European support and creating channels of information between communities separated by administrative, political and informational barriers.
The Civil Society Gala is a flagship event dedicated to recognising organisations and initiatives that contribute to strengthening democracy, social inclusion and sustainable development.
Through these awards, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova highlights projects that bring about real change in communities and underscores the essential role of civil society in Moldova’s European integration process.
