Teachers across Moldova gain hands-on tools to address disinformation

In March 2026, the Training of Trainers (ToT) programme built around the News Alchemist – Civic Education Game expanded nationwide, reaching over 200 educators and students across Moldova. Sessions were held across multiple regions in northern, central, and southern Moldova, bringing together educators and students from a wide range of districts.

The trainings combine interactive learning with practical guidance, helping teachers both experience the game and learn how to apply it in the classroom. Through simulation, participants explore media ethics, bias, and manipulation by stepping into the role of journalists and observing how narratives influence public opinion.

The sessions sparked strong engagement. In Edineț, discussions became particularly intense, with participants debating whether disinformation is driven more by “a society that believes” or “a journalist who lies,” reflecting how the game turns abstract concepts into real-life dilemmas.

Teachers highlighted the game’s practical value, flexibility, and accessibility, noting it can be easily integrated into Education for Society and Civic Education classes. Many emphasized that while media literacy is part of the curriculum, explaining how manipulation works remains a challenge – one that this tool helps address.

The strong engagement across regions underscores the importance of scaling such initiatives, as educators seek more effective ways to address disinformation in classrooms across Moldova.
