Mediacritica boosts Moldova’s defenses against disinformation

The Mediacritica platform, run by the ICDC partner Independent Journalism Centre (IJC),  is increasing the country’s defenses against disinformation with a mix of investigative reporting and media-literacy outreach.

In October, the platform tackled how Moldova’s information space is shaped by foreign interference and manipulation, publishing analyses that revealed serious cases of illegal campaign funding, cyberattacks, and coordinated propaganda during the 2025 parliamentary elections.

Mediacritica also explained how fake TikTok accounts, sexist rhetoric, and invisible propaganda networks fuel pro-Kremlin narratives. Through its series #PEÎNȚELES (“In Plain Terms”), it promoted media literacy as a core element of public resilience. Seventeen stories were published over the month, each aimed at helping Moldovans recognize and resist manipulation.

Complementing this coverage, the cuMINTE podcast – also produced by IJC – analysed the role of social media in spreading disinformation during the electoral campaign. In the October episode, IJC editor-in-chief Victoria Dodon described social media as the main battleground for manipulation, drawing on thousands of analyzed posts and videos.

Short video clips from the podcast were shared across IJC’s social-media channels, while the full episode is available on YouTube, Spotify, and other major platforms. 🎧 Listen here

Through these activities, IJC showed how independent media and civil society can work side by side to strengthen Moldova’s information resilience and keep truth at the center of public life.
