The Independent Countering Disinformation Centre (ICDC) was officially registered as a non-governmental organisation in the Republic of Moldova on 23 October 2026, marking an important milestone in its institutional development and long-term commitment to strengthening the country’s resilience to disinformation.

Established in 2023 with the support of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), ICDC has developed as a civil society platform bringing together organisations working to counter disinformation and strengthen information integrity in Moldova. Its official registration provides a formal legal basis for the continuation and development of this work.

“ICDC’s official registration in Moldova marks an important milestone in our institutional development and allows for a stronger foundation for advancing the work we have built together with our 13 member organisations and partners over the past three years. Disinformation is a shared challenge that requires a collective response. Our focus remains on strengthening collaboration, facilitating the exchange of expertise and developing practical, locally driven solutions that reinforce Moldova’s resilience to disinformation and support a healthier information environment,” said Stela Leucă, Executive Director of ICDC.

Through collaboration, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives, ICDC and its network of 13 member organisations support efforts to raise public awareness, strengthen media literacy and develop practical responses to information manipulation.

The registration marks a new chapter in ICDC’s development, building on the experience, partnerships and collaborative work established since 2023. As a registered Moldovan NGO, ICDC will continue working with its members and partners to strengthen cooperation across civil society and contribute to a more resilient information environment in Moldova.
