On 28 January 2026, the Nord Press Club, an Independent Countering Disinformation Centre (ICDC) partner, organised a public screening of the documentary “A Test of Democracy“, produced and presented by TV Nord.

The documentary explores electoral processes, the integrity of elections, and how information reaches citizens – with a particular focus on young people and the influence of the digital environment.

It draws on the experience of Moldova’s 2025 parliamentary elections, analysing how they were reflected in the information space, and highlighting challenges related to disinformation, online manipulation, and access to verified information.

The event brought together around 80 participants of different ages, including young people, journalists, and members of the local community. Following the screening, participants actively engaged in the discussion, describing the film as informative, relevant, and thought-provoking.

• the spread of disinformation and the role of social media;
• the importance of fact-checking and source verification;
• the fairness and transparency of electoral processes;
• the shared responsibility of media and citizens in protecting democratic values

Expert perspectives

The discussion was moderated by Ion Ciobanu, an electoral law expert and university lecturer, who facilitated a balanced and solution-oriented exchange.

Speakers included Viorica Bugulean, Executive Director of the Nord Press Club, and Dorin Rusu, TV Nord reporter. They offered complementary perspectives on the role of journalism, civic education, and informed citizen participation in strengthening democratic life.

“A Test of Democracy” serves as a valuable civic education and public reflection tool, contributing to a deeper understanding of democratic processes and supporting the prevention of electoral misconduct through clear, accessible, and responsible information.
