Between June and August 2025, media expert Lilia Zaharia facilitated 15 regional workshops dedicated to preventing and combating disinformation. The sessions gathered 388 teachers from districts across the country, equipping them with practical tools to identify manipulation and strengthen critical thinking in schools.
The workshops took place in both urban and rural areas, including Cahul, Soroca, Comrat, Edineț, Bălți, and Rîșcani, ensuring diverse representation. Each half-day session combined presentations, group work, and case studies. Teachers analysed real-life examples of false narratives targeting Moldova’s education sector and electoral processes, practised fact-checking techniques, and discussed how to adapt these lessons for different age groups.
Feedback from participants highlighted strong interest in the topic and the need for continued support. Educators noted that media literacy is now a core competence for students, as vital as traditional subjects. Many committed to sharing the knowledge with colleagues and introducing new methods into everyday teaching and extracurricular activities such as debate clubs or awareness campaigns.
Challenges were also discussed, including bilingual classrooms, limited IT resources, and the influence of cross-border media. These exchanges allowed teachers to propose creative, locally adapted solutions to strengthen resilience in their own communities.
By empowering teachers with knowledge and practical skills, these workshops helped create a growing network of educators ready to integrate media education into school life. The workshops demonstrated that Moldova’s response to disinformation begins at the community level, with informed and engaged educators.
